Three Lions on a shirt; here comes the World Cup.
This year, the World Cup will be held in South Africa which will bring out the brilliant atmosphere the African fans can create. There are some teams that are favoured to win the World Cup. These teams are usually the same at every World Cup and are as follows: Brazil, who have won the most World Cups, Italy, winners of the last World Cup in 2006 Argentina, England, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and France. Although the latter of the teams may have dropped behind a little in recent years.
Only Spain and the Netherlands have failed to lift the World Cup despite have consistently good teams throughout their footballing history. However, with Spain’s Euro 2008 success, perhaps they are finally ready to mount a challenge and take home a prize they should have captured already.
As an Englishman, and a huge patriot, I would like to take a few moments to weigh up my national team’s chances in South Africa later this year. With Fabio Capello in charge and his no nonsense approach to management, I believe we finally have someone capable of taming the egos that have cost England dearly in the past.
The team won nine of their ten matches to qualify for the World Cup including two wins over Croatia. They looked fantastic on the pitch, lethal up front and solid at the back. They played as a team for the first time in years and they certainly look full of confidence.
They have a very solid back line, with Terry and Ferdinand leading it with lots of experience. Lampard and Gerrard in the midfield seem to have finally worked out a way to play alongside each other and new players such as Ashley Young are fitting in well. Rooney is having a fantastic season for Manchester United as is Agbonlahor for Aston Villa. The team looks complete and could really mount a serious challenge this year. I predict big, big things.
My sister wants me to plan a party for her thirtieth birthday: I think I know what we should sort out. Who would be up for a surprise trip and spending a bit of money on some chalet val thorens, you know that it is for a good cause!
