Faceless World

I remember before the internet, when I wanted to ask my friend if he wanted to come out on his bike, I would have to ride along the dark path to his house and physically knock on his door. Although it often rained and ruined everything, and I ended up soaked, I enjoyed the ride and even the cold ride home in the dark.I enjoyed the entire experience. The can-do attitude and the not having to think until I was out there, pedalling…

But now? It’s all changed. Now, the kids Facebook each other first — or send an SMS or ten — and discuss if they should bother going out or not: if you ask me that makes it way too easy to not do things. There’s nothing spontaneous about it, and as such it’s much less fun.

The same with birthdays, of course. Back in the day you’d have no choice but to ring someone up and wish them Happy Birthday. Now? You don’t need to. You just simply leave a message on their wall and that’s that – you move on with your day.

Personally I think that FB should ban people from sending an phrase with the expression “birthday” in. At least that way people would have to pick up the phone and give you a ring and actually use their voice. And yes, Steve from it support london , I am directing this article directly at you. Pull your finger out, it’s just a phone call!
