Why Aren’t We?

Why Aren’t We?

It is a question that has been eating me for almost a year now but I have always considered it to be outside the scope of my abilities to answer -why aren’t we religious? I have been observing the British society for well enough time – I see the people passing on the other side of the road across the churches on Sunday and no-one would even step inside for a quick Sunday prayer. And I have seen many households that do not even have the Bible. Nowadays, some of the children do not even know the difference between New and Old Testament. People seem to be more interested in moving and handling train the trainer rather than sparing 28 seconds of their time to say the God’s prayer (yes, it takes that long!).

But why aren’t we religious? I’ve seen the faith in Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and Buddhists – oh well, these guys beat us because they reach internal peace through religions. And, on the side, we, the proud Christian nation of Great Britain, are losing morality, losing values and faith through abandoning our religious orientation. We can be happy to be among the people with the most peaceful religion and the most extensive morality sources contained in the Bible. Yet, we have no appreciation of this fact and this is what makes me sad.

Religion is thought in the family the most – so why aren’t our families teaching us the words of God? Even if we are not true believers, we will find the truth about honor, about love and peace in the words of God’s son. Still we ignore this opportunity. I cannot aim to go further into this discussion, I just wish every reader asks himself whether application of God’s words into the everyday life of people would harm anyone – I do not really think so. I think it would make us all better people, believers or not!
